On New Year’s Eve, a friend mentioned a few fun math tidbits about the number 2025. I was intrigued and couldn’t resist diving deeper and coming up with a few more! As a market research firm, we love numbers and uncovering the stories behind them, so let’s start off the year 2025 with some fascinating facts about the number itself:

A Joy of a Number

The sum of its digits is 9 and 2025 is divisible by 9, which makes it a Harshad number (in number theory it’s an integer that is divisible by the sum of its digits), and the result of the division in this case is also a Harshad number with the same sum of digits of 9! The word Harshad is derived from a Sanskrit word that means joy.

2+0+2+5=9, 2025/9=225

2+2+5=9, 225/9=25

That is a Square…

If you add up numbers 1 through 9 and square the sum, it will equal… you guessed it – 2025:

(1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)^2=2025

And also Cubes…

The sum of cubes of numbers 1 through 9 also equals 2025:

1^3+2^3+3^3+4^3+5^3+6^3+7^3+8^3+9^3=2025

That is One in a Thousand

Year 2025 is a “perfect square” (45^2=2025), which is pretty rare – it only happens about once a century. The last “perfect square” year was 1936 (44^2) and the next one will be 2116 (46^2).

But 2025 is even more unique. If you put a + in the middle, you get 20+25=45 which gives you 2025 when squared:

(20+25)^2=2025

The next year with this quality will be 1000 years from now – year 3025!

At Proof, we know that numbers are more than just digits – they tell a story and are the key to unlocking valuable strategic insights. May this unique year 2025 be filled with joy, curiosity, and high-quality market research!

Happy New Year from all of us at Proof Insights!
